A delicious and easy custard pie recipe featuring thinly sliced apples, perfect for dessert.
Ingredients
Scale
- ¾ cup All purpose flour
- ⅔ cup white granulated sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 5 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 medium apples (thinly sliced)
Instructions
- In a large bowl whisk together the flour, salt, and sugar.
- Add the eggs, cream, milk, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth.
- Chill the batter in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
- Get the batter out of the refrigerator and stir gently, mixing any flour that settled to the bottom during chilling.
- Preheat the oven to 325° F / 170°C (150°C if using a fan-assisted oven).
- Line a baking pan (bottom and sides) with parchment paper, ensuring it hangs over the sides for easy removal.
- Pour the batter into the lined baking pan and arrange the slices of apples over the batter.
- Bake for 45 – 50 minutes, covering with foil if the top browns too quickly.
- Check for doneness with a skewer; it should come out clean.
- Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 15 – 20 minutes.
- Lift out the baked custard pie using the parchment paper and slice to serve.
Notes
- Note 1: Use large eggs for best results.
- Note 2: Full-fat milk is recommended for creaminess.
- Note 3: Apples should be thinly sliced to ensure even cooking.
- Note 4: Chilling the batter helps improve texture.
- Note 5: A 7.5 inch (19cm) round cake pan is ideal.
- Note 6: Allowing the pie to cool helps it set properly.
